He is now retired but was the past Executive Director at Nakani Native Program, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Native culture and creating programs to support the urban Native population. He has also led and been a major part of the Annual Intertribal Canoe Journey for over 30 years and says it is his passion.

He is always interested in learning about his heritage because there is always something new to learn about where his ancestors came from. He has experienced living on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana and loves visiting family there while attending powwows.

David Olivera is a Chicano activist, educator, and social worker with Indigenous Mexican Tarahumara/ Rarámuri and Nahua tribal affiliations. He has worked with numerous legendary activists like Dolores Huerta and has been working towards children's education at Solid Ground, a local nonprofit for more than 19 years.
