Petition to do Land Acknowledgments and teach Native history

I have created a petition to do Land Acknowledgments and teach native history in schools. Please help this important cause by signing my petition at this link!  http://chng.it/b4cYYG8r

Iit is so important that the children of this nation learn about the history of the Indigenous people whose land they are living on. So far, I am working with board members in my school district, city government, and senators to advocate for this cause. I am trying to get schools to put up posters in schools (see example on the right) that state whose tribal lands the school is built on. We are also working to say Land Acknowledgments before assemblies and teach curriculum that thoroughly addresses Native history.

2021 IndiGENart contest

I conducted an Indigenous Youth art contest in conjunction with several Native organizations and sponsored by Nakani Native Program. The purpose of the art contest was to raise awareness about Native art and encourage youth to connect with their culture.

UNEA volunteer

I volunteer for Urban Native Education Alliance, an organization that works with local Indigenous families and youth.

Database for Indigenous Slavery Research Intern

I work on the Database of Indigenous Slavery as a research intern to help connect modern day Tribal members with the history of their ancestors and also amplify stories of historic Native individuals.

TAKE ACTION

Sign the petition:  http://chng.it/b4cYYG8r

I created this petition to do Land Acknowledgments in schools! This is very important because it is a quick yet effective way to recognize that we all live on Indigenous land and help educate students and staff about Indigenous history.

Donate to these organizations:

  • Duwamish Tribe (Real Rent Program): https://www.duwamishtribe.org/
  • Snoqualmie Tribe Foundation:  https://snoqualmietribe.us/
  • Find your local tribe and donate to them, they should have a page
  • SIHB- https://www.sihb.org/ They do incredible work to support Native people access to healthcare!

The best thing you can do is educate yourself and share that information! Check out the Resources page for ways to educate yourself.

Reach out to Indigenous people and talk to them. Ask questions. You can ask questions like:

  • Can you please tell me more about your culture? Which tribe are you from?
  • Be willing to listen and you can share about your own culture. Exchange knowledge!
  • Visit a Reservation! In the Seattle area you can explore the Tulalip Reservation.

There are many ways that you can support the cause. We need people like you to fight for Indigenous rights and help correct the wrongdoings of the past while creating a better present and future.
